An odd couple
The houses were not a pretty sight when the couple saw the houses for the first time. But hard work and lots of time gave great results. The master bedroom is at the top floor and has small floral wallpaper all the way to the very top of the house. The style of the house does not go well with bright colours and instead they have used flowers, pillows and other interiors to create a pleasant atmosphere in the home.
Three apartments built into one
This is Hjordis DIY project. Three small apartments built into one big apartment: at first two apartments on the same floor and then one downstairs. The biggest project was to build the indoor staircase and deciding on how much they should remove of the separation between the new bedroom and office. Hjordis has built the kitchen herself in concrete and tiles. Her husband is in on all her ideas but he can´t built them.
Art collectors in Copenhagen
The house was originally built for wealthy families who had servants and therefore the kitchen is in the basement, a reception room and dining room on the ground floor and living rooms on the first floor and nursery and walk in closets on the second floor. At the top floor they have built a large master bedroom with a bathroom in the rooms that used to be for the servants. The couple collects Danish and international contemporary art in the fields of photo art, paintings and sculptures.
A white dream
The house was designed by architect Mikkel Westfall based on ideas from the residents. The unique characteristics of the house include the terrace in connection with the master bedroom where there is no ceiling, but only the building visible corner angle. From the corner window in the kitchen the sunlight reflects in the small water pool into kitchen. The peephole from the child's bedroom to the kitchen looks nice but it also brings light from the bright kitchen/living room into the nursery. The staircase in the center of the building is open and airy but still visible in materials that match the rest of the house.
